Bernd Goeres has taken over as Director of Audi Sport customer racing Asia from Rene Koneberg, effective from June 1, 2016. Koneberg, Managing Director of Audi Hong Kong since 2015, has been appointed as the new chairman of the steering committee of Audi Sport customer racing Asia.
Said Goeres: “Audi Sport customer racing Asia will continue to offer the most attractive packages to race enthusiasts in Asia. We are committed to further developing motorsport in the region and to bringing action-packed events to fans across Asia.”
After holding management positions at AUDI AG headquarters in Ingolstadt, Goeres joined Audi China as Head of Racing Operations and Sports Car in 2013. In his new role, Goeres is now responsible for the whole programme of Audi Sport customer racing Asia, which is operated by Audi China in Beijing.
Koneberg had headed the Asian motorsport platform of Audi since 2012, when it was founded along with the first season of the Audi R8 LMS Cup. As the first brand Cup of Audi worldwide, the Audi R8 LMS Cup has set new standards for sprint racing in Asia. The GT and customer racing program has been continuously expanded, including Asian entries in top-level events like the GT Asia Series, the Macau GP, the Sepang 12 Hours, the Nürburgring 24 Hours, the Blancpain Endurance Series and the Audi Sport TT Cup.
Koneberg remains strongly committed to the Asian motorsport platform in his new role as Chairman of the Steering Committee of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. The Steering Committee meets regularly to align on the overall direction of motorsport strategy for Asia. The following members complete the committee: Goeres, Johannes Trost (Audi Sport customer racing, quattro GmbH), Mark Turner (Series Manager, Audi R8 LMS Cup), Hans Lippert (Director Brand Marketing and Digital Business, Audi China) and Martin Kuehl (Head of Corporate Communications, Audi China).
