Cebu Pacific Air by PRT concluded the Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) season with an impressive triple podium finish. Driver Kim Jeong Tae’s performance at the Penbay International Circuit also helped the team secure second place in the team’s championship.
Kim quickly found his pace around the 3.527 km circuit. This allowed him to qualify in P3 and P4 during Saturday morning’s session, giving him a good chance for a strong finish in Races 16, 17, and 18.
“I’m really happy,” said Kim. “This is my first triple podium and it’s a good way to finish the season. I pushed really hard throughout the weekend and our efforts paid off. I’d like to thank Cebu Pacific Air by PRT for giving me a great car all year. It’s been an enjoyable experience and I learned a lot in every race.”
Known for his lighting starts, the South Korean driver was able to challenge for position off the line in Race 16. His bold attempt, however, was unsuccessful. He then maintained P3 throughout the 13-lap race until the chequered flag came out.
The races resumed on Sunday where Kim moved up to the front row of the grid for Race 17. He enjoyed a trouble-free run in the 8-lap sprint to claim second place. Determined to end the season on a high, Kim put on an even stronger challenge in Race 18 for a possible spot on the podium. He started from P3 and managed to jump a spot on the opening lap. Kim pulled a comfortable gap to finish in second during the last race of the season.
It was a good weekend for both Kim Jeong Tae and Cebu Pacific Air by PRT. Ending the 2016 season fourth in the driver’s standings, this was the first time in Kim’s career to finish all three races on the podium. Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific by PRT are crowned as team vice champions in their debut season.
