As part of GulfSport Racing’s international driver development program 2016 Formula Gulf Champion Cato Poulsen and Vice Champion Omar Gazzaz will compete in the Tiedeman Trophy Championship starting in June. With double-header events organised by the UK’s largest single seater racing club at Rockingham, Croft, Mallory and Donington Park, the drivers will gain valuable experience of classic British race circuits and conditions.
“Cato and Omar are two of four very talented young drivers who have signed to race our Formula Gulf cars in the UK this summer” said GulfSport Racing’s Martin Hope. “We felt it extremely important that they gain this experience and continue to work with our driver coach and race engineers this summer to ensure that they are truly competitive before entering an expensive national championship like Formula 4 or Formula Renault”.
Over five seasons of testing and racing in the UAE, the Ralph Firman space-frame chassis with their GulfSport prepared 160bhp engines and 6-speed sequential gearboxes have typically proven to be the quickest and most reliable race cars on UAE circuits. “We are actively working on the development of a sister championship to Formula Gulf in the UK starting in 2017. It will use the same successful training format, slicks and wings cars, all centrally run with shared data that has enabled so many of our young drivers to start their professional racing careers” said Hope. “Another batch of rolling chassis from Ralph Firman is being sent to Dubai for us to build and test in Season Six of Formula Gulf after which we will ship them to the UK for the start of the new championship next April”.
Poulsen and Gazzaz will be joined in the Tiedeman Trophy by 2014 IAME Junior X30 World Champion Josh Smith and Super One Rotax competitor Dominic Shepherd.
