It was an overcast day on Sunday at Shah Alam for round 3 of the IKC- Initial Karting Competizione. But that didn’t stop 45 eager karters joining for some exciting, action-packed racing.
The most drivers for a round so far this year meant that the grids were busy and the action was intense. It was a good crowd of spectators who were on their feet watching the bumping and grinding action out on the track.
Two main talking points of the day were about The Kenyan Bison- Imran Bagha- making a glittering appearance with his new race suit. Staying true to the giant predator of the Chalbi desert, the Bison had an explosive tussle with Keshan Nair, diving on the inside of turn 2 making an “aggressive move that didn’t work” as the Kenyan put it. “That was a dive I took thinking he would go on the outside, but he stuck on the inside.”
The Kenyan Bison couldn’t stop there though, comparing himself to a legendary Formula One World Champion; “As Senna had said, ‘if you don’t go for the smallest of opening with your whole heart, you aren’t racing!’, That’s what I was doing, trying to get past Keshan who’s a great driver and a very tough competitor. Lucky we both know how to control the karts so we finished the race in style.”
A style that has now garnered the Kenyan with the title of IKC “Gangsta” of the month, as you can see in the video below.
The first pre-final was a dominate win for Irfan with star Malaysian race driver and Lamborghini Supertrofeo racer Zen Low finishing a close second. It was the first IKC event for the famed Malaysian pro race driver, “It was a nice friendly community. It’s definitely a good platform for grassroots racing. This platform allows the amateur to practice and prepare themselves before moving onto a higher level series. I certainly enjoy hanging out with the boys and friends, and most importantly I had fun.”
But what’s a pre-final without a real crash? Spectators were treated to an exciting first corner crash between Andy Lim and Ibrahim, both spinning but luckily both rejoining the race. Footage of the crash can be seen in the highlights video below.
Unfortunately the day was cut short as the heavens opened and unleashed a rain storm that cancelled the two finals. But everyone was more than happy with the size of the grids and the quality of racing that IKC has once again produced.
Next round will be held on May 22nd.
