Franz Engstler’s Liqui Moly Team Engstler squad has revealed that they will be joined by former Swedish Touring Car competitor Tomas Engström for their debut in the TCR Asia Series which begins at Zhuhai International Circuit (China) on August 14.

The Swede is no stranger to Touring Cars, and when he arrives in China he will also be well versed too with the new TCR concept, after his TCR International Series debut in Moscow behind the wheel of an Engstler Motorsport SEAT León TCR.
“From the first time I heard about the TCR regulations I knew it would be a success and I was looking to be part of it in some way,” Engström explained. “When Liqui Moly Team Engstler gave me this opportunity I was very happy – to be part of TCR with such a well known team as Engstler Motorsport is an honour.
“For me to do the TCR Asia Series is perfect and provides me a new experience with new circuits and new conditions give me the challenge I need to be on top. It’s also fantastic to be involved with these new cars which are being built and developed by the most respected motorsport constructors in the world.”
“We are very happy to have Tomas in our team and with his experience we will be sure to fight for podiums,” Engstler Motorsport’s team manager Kurt Treml said.
“As preparation for the TCR Asia Series Tomas will join Liqui Moly Team Engstler in the TCR International Series at Sochi in Russia (21 June), to learn the car and get familiar with the team. He will replace Lorenzo Veglia, in the Seat León TCR for the round, as Veglia has a University examination that weekend.
“We also have to thank Liqui Moly, Remus Exhaust Systems and also SECO who have assisted our involvement in the TCR Asia Series with two cars.”
“It’s great to see the new teams gearing up for Zhuhai,” TCR Asia Series promoter David Sonenscher added. “We’re very excited by what the TCR concept brings to Asia, and by the high level of interest from teams around the region.
“With just two months to go until the opening event, there is some big news coming, with some star drivers and well recognised Asian teams joining the field.”
