Featuring state-of-the-art technology, the latest racing Clio is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo engine which produces 220hp and, for the first time, the car features a steering-wheel mounted paddle shift gear change. A number of Clio Cup China Series drivers including Yang Xu had already raced the new Clio Cup on Circuito de Jerez in Spain for the Clio Euro Cup last year and his feedback was all positive. The new Clio Cup performance is amazing and run very well in Spain.
In order to test the ultimate performance of the new Clio, CTCC Champion Terry Hkwang did a time attack and tire testing in Zhuhai International Circuit. Although this is the first time testing the new Clio with Giti tires, he is able to do 1:54 with the first lap. The time is getting shorter from lap to lap. After three sections he broke his first lap record by over a second of 1:53.36, proving the new Clio can perform a lot better than the old model. The drivers think that with the latest model of Clio, the overall lap time will be improved, and the fastest lap time of the series will be broken this year.
With no engine modifications allowed and very limited aero on the cars, it is down to the teeam to communicate information to the driver during the race to make certain racing decisions, just like the WTCC. This season the Clio Cup China Series will be contested on 5 circuits including: Guangdong International Circuit, Zhuhai International Circuit, Shanghai International Circuit, Sepang F1 Circuit and Cheng Du International Circuit.
From recent tests, the Clio Cup car can better the Zhuhai lap time by 3 seconds.
