The Sepang 12 Hours 2015 jointly organised by Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and the SRO Motorsports Group will be taking place from 11-13 December 2015. It will be an exciting weekend with participation from key players of the automotive industry like Audi, Bentley, Ferrari, McLaren amongst others. All of these exciting racing machines are in the hands of GT- and Touring Car-specialists, with several former (and reigning) champions at the start.
Here are two of our Malaysian drivers who will be racing this weekend, be sure to catch them burn rubber at the renowned circuit.
Alex began his career in saloon cars before moving into the Proton one-make series. He later raced in single-seater cars where he won the Malaysian Championship in 1995. He is also known as the first Malaysian to race in Formula One with Minardi at the 2001 Italian Grand Prix. After his Formula One career, Alex has participated in many races including A1 Grand Prix, Le Mans Series, GP2 Asia Series and many more.
He is very happy to be driving the R8 this year at the Sepang 12 Hours. When he’s not racing on the track, Alex finds himself water-skiing at sea. Alex said that Sepang International Circuit is amazing yet challenging circuit and it would definitely be exciting to race at the track this weekend. He believes that we should all “just keep showing up!”.
Afiq Ikhwan was introduced to motorsports at the tender age of 15 by a friend of his father’s friend. Since then Afiq has had a need for speed. Now at 24 year-old, he has to his credit won the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Champion, 2nd Overall Formula Masters China Series 2013 and 2nd Overall Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia 2013.
Apart from the racing, Afiq likes to travel and spending time with his two cats, Luna and Horshi. He is a big fan of cats and describes himself as a ‘casual shorts and t-shirt kinda’ guy’. He is definitely looking forward to this weekend’s race at the Sepang Circuit and hope that the weather will be good. One of the biggest challenges Afiq faced in his career was having the financial support to keep his passion burning and he is really glad that his parents have supported his passion. What keeps him pushing himself? He said “if you ain’t first, you’re last”.
