Car no.5 James Yu from Absolute Racing won both races on Sunday for the Formula Masters Series at Sepang International Circuit. After his maiden victory on Saturday the Absolute Racing Team Driver won 3 out 4 races this weekend.

The championship is getting closer and it looks like it will go down to the wire this season, Car no.55 Daniel Lu who’s also from Absolute Racing is still leading with 106 points, but James is now in second with just 11 points behind Lu and Danial Frost from Eurasia Motorsport and Taylor Cockerton from Cebu Pacific Air by Pinnacle Motorsport are still very much in contention with 90 and 85 points respectively.

The Race 7 grid was based on the Qualifying 2 results, and James started from pole position with Danial Frost starting alongside James and Car no.6 Tomoki Takahashi from Super License in third place.

James YU had a good start and managed to stay in the lead. Daniel LU had a good start as well and managed to get past Tomoki Takahashi. At the first turn Ben Grimes from Cebu Pacific Air by Pinnacle Motorsport spun causing Arvin Esmaeili from Absolute Racing having to brake hard and his team mate Manuel Cabrera touched him from behind and got some airtime, but luckily both drivers managed to continue and finish the race.

“It was a great race,” said winner James Yu. “Very comfortable with the car, I think the car had some good performance. I think we had a good advantage in terms of lap time. So I think I hopefully we can do more races like this.”

Once the race got under way Tomoki Takahashi, got back to 3rd on lap 5 and started to put pressure on Singaporean Danial Frost. Takahashi found a way past Frost at T4, but Frost immediately took back the place and managed to keep the hard charging Japanese behind him till the chequered flag.

In the Master Cup, Hu Nan spun out T14 on lap 8. Which caused a yellow flag and handed Zhang Yang qi the victory in the Master Cup.

Race 8
Another pole for James Yu who was on the front row alongside the Spanish Antolin Gonzalez from Cebu Pacific Air by Pinnacle Motorsport. Unfortunately Gonzalez overshot his grid box which caused an extra formation lap as well as the driver being given a drive-through penalty, Dashing his hopes for a podium position.

James managed to pull away and was in control most of the race. Taylor Cockerton was following in second. “Overall is not too bad,” said Cockerton. “Three second places and a fifth. Obviously, our biggest thing we need to work on is the qualifying, we obviously stuffed it up a bit. A big thank you to the PRT boys, they worked very hard this weekend.”

On lap 3, Kurt Hill from Eurasia Motorsport clashed with his Team Mate Isyraf Danish at T1 which caused him to retire and bringing out the safety car.

It was a strong performance of Daniel Lu who started 9th on the grid and managed to finish third taking the last step on the podium.

Linky Racing, who are new to the series are also improving every race and managed to get good results in this very competitive season. Zhang Ya Qi finished 7th and Luo Kao Luo in 8th.

The next race will be in Zhuhai, (China) on the 16th till 18th of June with 3 races.
