Dan competed in his first GT3 sprint race last weekend after a late call up from race team KCMG on Wednesday, and thanks to Audi Motorsports Asia, Formula Masters China Series, KC Motorgroup, and car sponsor Choctails, a deal was done to allow him to make his debut in the category.

Practice consisted of two 45 minute sessions at the former Formula One venue, which allowed Wells the chance to familiarise himself with the car and the competition. He completed the first session in P10, before rising up to P4 in the second practice. Qualifying then followed with a 15 minute session to make the top 8, where they would go on to compete in the Superpole – a one lap shootout to decide the grid for the first four rows. It was Dan’s first time on new tyres but he managed to qualify in 4th place, lining up behind Championship Contender Alessio Piciarello, former F1 driver and reigning Champion Alex Yoong, and 2012 Audi R8 LMS Cup Champion Marchy Lee.

The first race consisted of a rolling start and Dan managed to finish in 5th place, two seconds behind a podium placing at the end of the 13 lap race. The second race was a standing start and Wells managed to finish in 6th place with the 4th fastest lap of the race.

Dan commented, “This weekend has been a great experience for me and I have learnt a lot. I’d like to thank Audi Motorsports Asia, KCMG, Formula Masters China Series and Choctails for allowing me to make my debut in the series and I hope that I can return. The car is awesome to drive and even better that it was at such a fun track as Korea – the close proximity of the walls gives a similar sensation to that of driving a street track – which I very much enjoy…”
