Jazeman Jaafar is revving up for a return to the race track this weekend, with the third round of the 2018-19 FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season. Jazeman and his fellow Malaysians, Weiron Tan and Nabil Jeffri, will return to the #37 DC Jackie Chan Racing Oreca LMP2 race car and are looking to recapture the spirit of racing that they enjoyed at Le Mans two months ago.
A fourth place Class finish, eighth overall of the 60 car field, at Le Mans 24 Hours race in June has been the highlight of the year so far for Jazeman and on familiar territory at the Silverstone circuit in the UK, he is hoping for more success behind the wheel.
He says, “There’s only been two rounds of WEC so far this year and we’ve had good results in both, with two fourth place finishes. Now it’s time to step up to the podium. I’ve driven at Silverstone throughout my career, both in single-seaters and sportscars, so I know the track well and that’s a good starting point. Weiron and Nabil have both driven there as well, so we’ll be firing on all cylinders and going for a top three placing.”
“It seems ages since I was last racing,” adds Jazeman. “I just love being out on track and jostling for position on a strong grid, so I can’t wait for the weekend. The memories of Le Mans 24 Hours are still very fresh in my mind and I still grin when I think about it, as I was in my element experiencing the best event in sportscar racing. I think that intensive time driving the DC Jackie Chan Racing Oreca LMP2 race car will also help, as I had the time to really understand the car and drive to the limits. The outright winners of the race will lift the coveted Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy, the oldest trophy in motorsport – how cool would that be!”
The six hours of Silverstone race headlines a packed weekend of racing action. Fans will be able to see not only the WEC, but also the fourth round of the ever-popular European Le Mans Series and three races from the hotbed of junior racing talent, the FIA F3 Championship. The track action starts on Friday, with the main feature race of the FIA World Endurance Championshiop starting at 12 noon local time on Sunday 19thAugust.
